Bill Dean Bowman, 87, died at 5:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at his home in Godfrey. Born July 12, 1928 in West Frankfort, IL, he was the son of Floyd Bowman Sr. and Barbara (Warsham) Bowman. Bill served in the U.S. Army and was a founding member of Heartland Baptist Church, formerly Alton First Southern Baptist Church. He was a former member of the Alton Antique Auto Association. He enjoyed sports and was an outstanding high school football player. In 1986 he retired from Union Electric after 33 years of service. On November 1, 1952 he married the former Ilene Chastain in Salem, IN. She survives. Also surviving are six children, Barbara Davis (David) of Cottage Hills, Jeanne Sherman (Neil) of Wood River, Missie Murphy (John) of Godfrey, Bob Bowman (Toni) of East Alton, Jeff Bowman (Becky) of Alton, and Terry Bowman (fiancé Lisa Reynolds) of Imperial, MO. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and four step grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and six step great grandchildren and a sister, Joyce Sabo of Godfrey. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by a son Gary Bowman, a brother, Floyd Bowman Jr., and three sisters, Neva Huffstuttler, Moselle Greenwell, and Betty Steele. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 14, 2016 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Reverend Tim Weihrauch will officiate.
