Betty Hendricks

On January 1, 2016 Betty Lee (Siglock) Hendricks went to her eternal home after a brief illness. She was currently residing at Rosewood Care Center in Alton, Illinois.

Betty was born in Alton on March 18, 1923 to Lawrence Siglock and Tessie Mae (Cox) Siglock. She attended elementary school at St. Peter and Paul and two years at Marquette High School in Alton. Betty and her sister Anna Mae moved to Wood River and lived with the Pennings and graduated from East Alton-Wood River High School in 1941. She was very honored to be crowned the 13th Harvest Queen her senior year.

A member of Holy Angels Parish and St. Ann's Altar Society, Betty worked at Ben Franklin's and then at Honke's in both Alton and Wood River before retiring. She was a volunteer for 19 years at St. Anthony's Hospital in Alton and was recently recognized for being a member of St. Ann's Altar Society for 50 years of service.

Betty loved life and spent many good times at their cabin in Brussels with family and close friends. She also enjoyed quilting and belonged for many years to a quilting group at Holy Angels Church. She lovingly sewed quilts for each of her children and grandchildren. Her other hobbies included playing pinochle and traveling the world.

Betty prayed everyday and her family called upon her often for extra prayers. She will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew her.

On September 18, 1943, Betty married Mervin H. Hendricks, her high school sweetheart. Merv preceded her in death on February 28, 1978.

Betty is survived by her four children, Nancy Elliott of Alton, Kathy (Nick) Parker of Collinsville, Tom (Jackie) Hendricks of East Alton, Tim (Kim) Hendricks of Springdale, Arkansas, and daughter-in-law, Linda Hendricks of Wood River. She was blessed to have 12 grandchildren, 17 great- grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. Betty is also survived by brother-in-law, Marvin Leo Jacobs of Alton, and sister-in-law, Evelyn Hendricks of Dorsey. Besides her husband and parents, Betty was preceded in death by her only sister, Anna Mae Jacobs; a son, Michael S. Hendricks, Sr.;a son-in-law, Jack Elliott; and great-grandson Zachary Ryan Hendricks.

Visitation will be at Marks Mortuary in Wood River on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 from 4-8pm.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Wood River on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at 10am. Father James Flach will officiate.

Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Memorial Garden in Bethalto.

Memorials may be made to St. Ann's Altar Society.
