Betty Lee Georgevits of Godfrey Obituary

Betty Lee Georgevits, 89, died at 5:46 p.m., Saturday, January 19, 2013 at Blu Fountain Manor in Godfrey.

She was born in Alton on Aug. 31, 1923, and was the daughter of the late Harry W. & Cleta (Wade) Smith Sr.

Betty attended Alton High School, and was employed at the Western Cartridge during World War II. She began working in housekeeping at Principia College in Elsah, and remained there for 18 years, retiring in 1988.

Betty married Joseph Georgevits Sr. on Apr. 26, 1941 in St. Charles, Mo., and together they shared 61 years together before his death on Sept. 25, 2002.

Surviving are her five children & their spouses, Donna & John Streeper Sr. of Godfrey, Linda & Bill Goheen of Dow, Joseph Georgevits Jr., and his companion, Mary DeSalvo of Godfrey, Deborah & Robert Monroe of Grafton, and Elizabeth Georgevits of Alton; 10 Grandchildren; 15 Great Grandchildren; One Great Great Grandson; a sister in law, Lola Smith of Alton; and a brother in law, George Georgevits of Alton.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, William Lee Goheen on Dec. 3, 1989; and three brothers, Carl Smith, Rexford Smith, and Harry W. Smith Jr.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday.

Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.

Memorials may be given to the Riverbend Humane Society in Jerseyville, or to the Activity Department at Blu Fountain Manor in Godfrey.
