Betty Bagby

Betty Lee Bagby, 85, passed away 3:50 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at VIP Manor in Wood River.Born on May 11, 1928 in East Alton, she was the daughter of Leo and Violet H. (Johnson) Downey.Betty had been an active member of the East Alton American Legion Post 794 Ladies Auxillary; served a Cub Scout Den Leader for the Boy Scouts; was a band mother in East Alton School District 13; a member of the Order of Eastern Star #847 in Bethalto; and a past president and vice president of the DeMolay.On June 21, 1949 in East Alton, she married Donald Bagby.  He survives.Preceding her in death were her parents; a son, William "Buster" Bagby; and two sisters, Marcella Hope Wiseman and Charlotte Allsman.Visitation will be from 9 a.m until time of service at 11 a.m. Saturday at Marks Mortuary in Wood River.  James Pyle will officiate.Burial will follow in Upper Alton Cemetery.Memorials may be made to Unity Hospice.
