Betty Farrell

Betty L. Farrell, 86, died at 8:38 a.m. Saturday, April 4, 2015 at Alton Memorial Hospital. Born April 3, 1929 in Dow, IL, she was the daughter of Joseph and Josephine (Tucker) Heitzman.

 Mrs. Farrell retired in 1995 as a switchboard operator for Alton Physicians Exchange and Answering Service. She was a member of the Alton VFW Post 1308 Ladies Auxiliary and the Ladies Auxiliary Jerseyville Eagles FOE. On August 24, 1996 she married Kenneth W. Farrell in Brighton, IL. He preceded her in death on March 5, 2006. Surviving is a daughter, Joyce Boomer Cummings (Delbert) of Alton, two sons, Randall A. Boomer (Jill) of Jerseyville, and Timothy Boomer (Maggi) of Cottage Hills, three grandchildren, Renee Wallace (Chip) of St. Louis, MO, Steven Boomer (Andrea) of Alton, and Tony Mercer (Erin) of Palos Heights, IL, six great grandchildren, Mara and Chloe Wallace, Olivia and Ava Boomer, and Marty and Jack Mercer. Also surviving are three sisters, Frances Lawliss of Alton, Joanne Dunham (Melvin) of Jerseyville, and Carol Grady of Roodhouse.

Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Joe Heitzman, and two sisters, Rosemary Sledd and Geraldine Scoggins.

Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, April 6, 2015 at Gent Funeral Home where funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 7, 2015. Reverend Tom Olney will officiate. Burial will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO.
