Berthold A. "Bert" Panyik, 92, of Wood River passed away at 4 a.m. Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at Rosewood Care Center of Alton.
Born in Wood River on January 16, 1923, he was the son of Frank Lewis and Victoria (Szabo) Panyik.
He had been an operator and truck driver for AMOCO before retiring. Bert served in the Air Force during WWII.
On July 21, 1942 in St. Charles, MO, he married the former Vera M. Wadeking. She died December 14, 1983.
Surviving are two daughters, Cheryl Panyik of Roxana, Denise Dale of Morris Plains, NJ; four grandchildren, Brent (Kacey) Panyik of Bethalto, Ashely (James) Conn of Roxana, Thomas (Heather) Ballard of East Alton, Madeleine Dale of Morris Plains, NJ; six great grandchildren, Tyler Tharp, Trevor Panyil, Hayden Conn, Sebastian Panyik, Kendall Panyik and Mason Ballard; two brothers, John (Maria) Panyik of Florida and Charlie Panyik of East Alton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; three brothers, Joseph, Frank and Steve Panyik; and two sisters, Victoria Tague and Mary Panyik.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until time of service at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 14, at College Ave. Presbyterian Church in Alton. Pastor Dale Jackson will officiate.
Burial will be in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
