Beatrice Doerr

Beatrice “Bee” L. Doerr, 93, of East Alton passed away, Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at Rosewood Care Center in Edwardsville with her family by her side.

 She was born September 24, 1921 in Woodson, IL to Melvin E. and Helen (Sappington) Lankford.  She married Albert E. Doerr March 8, 1947 in Alton; he preceded her in death Sept. 29, 1985.  She worked for over 25 years at PN Hirch and Bonds Clothing, retiring in 1979.  Bee was a member of the Order of Eastern Star in Wood River and worked as an election judge for over 50 years. She was personally congratulated by President William “Bill” Clinton for her service.

She is survived by four children, John “Jed” and his wife Glenna Doerr of East Alton, Sharon Hanks of Lafayette, LA, Phyllis Fry of Roxana, and Norma Wilson of Holiday Shores; thirteen grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Susan Kasikantiris; 3 sons-in law, Barry Fry, David Wilson and Ronald Hanks; and four sisters, her twin, Bernice Crump, Betty Richardson, Eleanor Longman, and Geraldine Lankford.

Bee was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and was a very giving person. In her younger years, she enjoyed the outdoors, traveling and camping.  She loved spending time with her family.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday, July 23, 2015 at Paynic Home for Funerals in Rosewood Heights, where services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, July 24, with Rev. Mike Southcombe officiating.  Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.  Memorials can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.  Online guestbook available at www.paynicfh.com
