Barbara Viola Hopkins, 70, passed away at 12:22 p.m. Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at Alton Memorial Hospital.
Born Oct. 1, 1946 in Alton, she was a daughter of Roy Glenn and Viola (Wadeking) Hopkins.
Barbara worked as an operator for Illinois-Bell Telephone Co. A member of Hartford United Methodist Church, she was known for her generosity. If you have a loved one in an area nursing home who received a bracelet as a gift or a bingo prize, chances are Barbara made and donated it. For many years she collected and sent holiday cards to hospitalized veterans. She made and donated over 600 laps quilts for the veterans as well.
She is survived by two sisters, Rebecca Batson of Granite City and Colleen (Tod) Marmino of Brighton; a brother, Michael (Julie) Hopkins of Goshen, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.
According to her wishes, there will be no services.
