Alvin w. Amrein, 88, passed away 7:05 a.m. Saturday, August 2, 2014 at Rosewood Care Center of Alton.
Born March 27, 1926 in St. Charles, MO, he was the son of Alvin A. and Edna B. (Ostmann) Amrein.
He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II and then was employed by Shell Oil for 38 years before retiring in 1985.
On January 4, 1947 in St. Charles, MO, he married the former LaVerne Pfarr. She died May 18, 2005.
Surviving are a son, Michael (Janice) Amrein of Placentia, CA; two grandchildren, Christopher Amrein and Catherine Bell; four great grandchildren; and a sister, Elsie Schulte of Troy, MO.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Monday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wood River, where services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Pastor Martin Schultz will officiate.
Burial will follow in Woodland Hill Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church where he had been a member.
