Alvin Charles Franz, 89, died at 12:15 a.m. on Thursday, March 20, 2014 at Jerseyville Nursing and Rehab. He was born December 14, 1924 in Staunton, IL the son of the late Arthur and Martha C. (Biernath) Franz. He served in the US Army artillery during WWII. He attended Emmanuel Free Methodist Church and he was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 1308. He retired in 1980 as parts manager with Hutton Ford. On June 19, 1948 in Godfrey he married Patricia Lee Willis and she survives. Also surviving are two daughters; Susan Kuhnline (Jeff) of Brighton and Tina Thomas (Jim) of Florissant, MO, four sons; David Franz of Godfrey, Dennis Franz (Suzie) of Worden, Douglas Franz of Largo, FL and Donald Franz of Alton, seven grandchildren; Carl Franz, Julia Holland, Derek Kuhnline, Jared Kuhnline, Savannah Thomas, David Thomas and Douglas Franz, one great grandchild; Lukas Franz, one brother; Kenneth Franz (Betty) of South Carolina. He was preceded in death by two brothers; Edgar and Raymond Franz. A Celebration of life will be from 1:00 p.m. until time of funeral service at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, March 23, 2014 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton with Pastor Mark Scandrett to officiate. Burial will be at Godfrey Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Crisis Food Center, 5 A’s or Emmanuel Free Methodist Church.
