Alvie Gilland

Alvie Gene Gilland, 84, passed away at 11 p.m. Saturday, October 31, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born May 31, 1931 in Livingston County, Ky., he was a son of Alvie Everett Gilland and Rosie Pearl (Miller) Gilland Ramage.

He worked as a heavy equipment operator/loader for Olin Corp., and he was a member of the Bethalto Masonic Lodge #406.

He married Carol Ann Bick on Apr. 9, 1954 in East Alton.  She survives.

Also surviving are five daughters, Sandy (Dave) Carter of South Roxana, Cindy (Danny) Phillips of Madisonville, Tenn., Linda (Gary) Hardin of South Roxana, Sheila Gilland of Hendersonville, Tenn., and Kelly Phillips (Edward Garis) of East Alton; his grandchildren, Jamie (Kerry) Walker, Tanya (Justin) Haynes, Josh Carter, Chris Drainer, Cassie (Jon) Gruen, Austin Phillips, and a special grandson, Jeremy (Carolyn Chronister) Gilland; 14 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Shirlene Curnel of Marion, Ky., and Darlene (Tom) Tedford of Lola, Ky.; and a brother, Garry (Cheryl) Ramage of Bunker Hill.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Rayburn Gilland; and a sister, Evelyn Mink.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4 with Masonic services at 7 p.m. at Paynic Home for Funerals. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 5 at the funeral home.

Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
