Alvareita A. Giles, 85, passed away Sunday, August 4, 2013 at her home.
She was born Feb. 26, 1928 to Siebert and Naomi (Ziegler) Vetter.
Alvareita had a beauty salon at home for several years when her kids were young. She then had a salon for 11 years on 9th Street in East Alton. In 1965, she purchased a beauty school in Edwardsville, then opened another in Godfrey in 1984. She opened a third school in Belleville in 2001. She loved doing hair and teaching others so she could share everything she had cared so much about.
She is survived by her children, Sheila Fudge of Belleville, Lindell (Donna) Giles of Jerseyville, Kent (Sandra) Giles of Rosewood Heights, and Paula (Bob) Carlton of Wood River; 8 grandchildren, Terry Meyer, Tina (Brian) Davis, Ricci (Lisa) Stassi, Michelle (Joey) Moreland, Lisa (Brian) Lynch, Brook Giles, and Zachary and Emily Carlton; 8 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Francis R. Giles; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Ron Meyer; a sister, Juanita McDermott; and a brother, Eugene Vetter.
Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9 at Paynic Home for Funerals in Rosewood Heights, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10. Pastor Martin Schultz will officiate.
Burial will follow at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.
