Alonzo Hampton, 88, died at 4:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at Robings Manor in Brighton. Born March 14, 1926 in E. Prairie, MO, he was the son of Lois L. and Meddie (Ferguson) Hampton. Mr. Hampton served in the U.S. Army and received the Purple Heart. He retired from Laclede Steel Co. after 35 years of service. He married the former Lois Jones. She survives. Also surviving is a son, Bradley Hampton (Martha Rankin) of Alton, and a granddaughter, Sarah Hampton of Cottage Hills. He was a loving brother and great grandfather to five. He was preceded in death by a son, Terry Hampton. Visitation will be from 3:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday, October 12, 2014 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Family and friends are invited to meet at Gent Funeral Home at 9:00 a.m. Monday, October 13, 2014 to process to Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery for graveside services at 10:30 a.m. Full military honors will be by the VFW Post 1308.
