Roxana |

Alice Louise Gant, a long-time resident of LaPlace, LA passed away peacefully at 11:00 a.m. Sunday, February 12, 2017 at Twin Oaks Nursing Home at the age of 95.

Born in 1921 in Davis County, Kentucky, Louise was the eldest of three daughters of Roy and Florene Armes. The family eventually moved to Roxana, Illinois, where Louise graduated from Wood River High School and pursued a secretarial career. In 1942, Louise met William (Bill) Posey Gant, then a young serviceman, at a USO dance in St. Louis, Missouri. Following the end of World War II, Louise and Bill married. After Bill joined the DuPont company, they traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and Europe before eventually settling in LaPlace, Louisiana in 1976.

Louise and Bill were avid travelers, golfers, and bridge players and were active in the local community. Following Bill’s death in 1991, Louise continued to pursue her enjoyment of travel, reading, local and New Orleans theater, and regular outings with friends.

Louise was dearly loved by her sons, Colonel (Ret) Roger Gant and Dr. Stephen Gant, daughter-in-law Annick, grandchildren Alan, Alexandra, William, Victoria, and Sophia, nephew Harry, niece Susan, and by many dear friends. She will always be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother whose greatest passion was her family and friends.
