Lloyd E. Sitze, 93, passed away at 1:45 a.m. Sunday, December 21, 2014 at Alton Memorial Hospital.
Born Feb. 6, 1921 in Lodge, Mo., he was the son of Paul E. and Rose E. (Myers) Sitze.
He married Edna I. Crater Sept. 12, 1942 in Alton. She passed away Feb. 10, 2007.
He was a US Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theatre. Lloyd worked as a UAW assembly worker for Lincoln-Mercury for 17 years. He later worked as a custodian for Wood River High School for 21 years until his retirement in 1986.
Survivors include two daughters, Cathy (Gary) Becker of St. Charles, Mo. and Joyce (Frank) Akers of Wood River; a son, Robert Sitze of East Alton; 7 grandsons, Steve (Kris) Becker of Spring, Tex., Geoff (Kelly) Becker of St. Peters, Mo., Mike (Randi) Becker of O’Fallon, Mo., Joseph Akers of Edwardsville, Benjamin (Genevieve) Akers of Glen Carbon, Jacob (Amelia) Sitze of Bethalto and Thomas Sitze of East Alton; great grandchildren, Timothy, Matthew, Nicholas, Scarlett and Lauren Becker, Caroline Sitze, Anabelle Reno, Jack and Andrew Sitze, and Juliet Akers.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Samuel Sitze; and his daughter-in-law, Carolyn Sitze.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 22 at Paynic Home for Funerals, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23.
Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens.
Memorials may be made to the East Alton First United Methodist Church Care Team.
