George Weigler

George Bley Weigler, 88, passed away peacefully with family at his side at 6:55 p.m. Monday, December 15, 2014 at Alton Memorial Hospital. Born May 7, 1926 in Staunton, he was the son of George Edward and Alice Mae (Fenwick) Weigler. Mr. Weigler served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the 11th Armored Division. He fought in the Battle of The Bulge and received two Bronze Battle Stars. He was a former member of the College Avenue Presbyterian Church and retired as a machinist from Hutchinson Foundry in 1963. On January 28, 1949 he married the former Minnie P. Stinnett. She survives. Also surviving are two sons, George Randall “Randy” Weigler (Marianne Ventimiglia) of Springfield, IL, and Scott Kevin Weigler (Barb Schuessler) of Alton, six grandchildren, Laura Dunn (Greg), Diane Buchanan (Brad), Dena Kidder (Mike), Randy, Kevin, and Nicholas Weigler, nine great grandchildren, Nathan, Jordan, Dylan, Andrew, Claire, Christopher, Paul, Addison, and Nolan. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his nine siblings. Memorial graveside service at a later date at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery with full military honors. Memorials may be made to St. Louis Children’s Hospital or the Crisis Food Center in Alton. Gent Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements.
