Janis Ritter

Janis Jo Ritter, 64, died at 4:44 p.m., Thursday, December 11, 2014 at Rosewood Care Center in Alton.She was born in Carrollton on Dec. 7, 1950, and was the oldest of eight children born to John Barry & Virginia Rose (Thompson) Ritter of Jerseyville.Janis grew up in Jerseyville and graduated in 1968 from Jersey Community High School.  She had been employed as a dispatcher for J.B. Hunt, and was currently the service manager at Jersey County Motors in Jerseyville.She married Leonard P. Richey on Sept. 26, 2010 and he survives.Also surviving are four sisters & brothers in law, Cindy & Alex Brown of St. Louis, Mo., Robin & Duane Downer of East Alton, Mary Myers of DelMar, Ca., Julie Southern of Los Gatos, Ca.; three brothers & sisters in law, Joe & Janelle Ritter, John & Connie Ritter, and James & Deb Ritter all of Jerseyville.She was preceded in death by her baby sister, Erika Rose Ritter in 1990; and her grandparents, Joseph & Esther Ritter and Ernest & Rose Thompson.A reception for family and friends will be held from 3 to 7 p.m., Saturday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.In lieu of flowers and plants, memorials to the 5A's in Alton are suggested.
