Charles Hardway

Charles Joel Hardway, 77, passed away at 9:40 pm Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at Veteran’s Home of Quincy, Illinois

He was born December 21, 1936 in Alton, IL, the son of the late Ross and Faye Hardway.

His beloved wife of 28 years, Phyllis (Williams) Hardway, preceded him in death on July 15, 1995. 

In addition to being a devoted husband and father, he was active as a member of the Church of Christ in East Alton and the Wood River Masonic Lodge #1062.  He served in the Army with the Missile Command in Korea during 1958 – 1959 and retired from the 936th Maintenance Reserves in Wood River.  Charles also retired from the Olin Corporation in 1989 after working 30 years.   

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Suellyn and Robert Nuckolls of Granite, OK; two sons, Joel Hardway of Edwardsville and Fred “Andy” Noe of Wood River; two precious granddaughters and a grandson, Shanna and Nicole Nuckolls and Nathon Nuckolls all of Granite, Ok; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Keith who died in August of 1967 and two sisters, Helen Rowlland and Sharon Cole. 

Visitation will be from 12:30 until military rites given by Alton VFW Post 1308 at 1 pm.  Services will follow at 1:30 pm Monday, December 1, 2014 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto with Pastor Randy Butler officiating.

Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.

Memorials may be made to the 5 A’s Animal Shelter or the Quincy Veteran’s Home.
