Eva Wilcox

JERSEYVILLE – Eva L. Wilcox, 85, entered into eternal peace with her Lord and Husband, Raymond there to meet her at 1:45 a.m., November 27, 2014 at the home of her daughter under the care of Blessing Hospice.

She was born on January 1, 1929 at 12:01 a.m. in Lowder, IL, one of 6 children born to the late Charles Emory Barrington Fenstermaker and Meta Pearl (Utt) Fenstermaker.

Eva grew up in Potosi, MO and graduated in 1943 from Potosi High School.

She married Air Force Tech Sergeant Raymond Wilcox on March 19, 1951 in Potosi, Missouri with her parent’s as witness, and together she and Raymond shared 58 beautiful years of marriage and the joys of raising their two children before his death on November 1, 2009.

While in Potosi, MO, Eva was employed by the Judge until advancing to the United States Air Force in San Antonio, Texas in May 1950 where she held several positions, including Mechanic Clerk, Equipment Operator, Radio Operatior, Tech Specialist, Seamstress, Electrical Technician as well as serving as a dietician.

After leaving the Air Force, she followed her dreams of being a self-employed civilian, having several careers as an EMT, Backline Cook as well as a self-proclaimed canner of her own foods.

After she and her husband were Honorably Dischared after 21 years with the Air Force, Eva opened her own restaurant in Carrollton, another dream she was able to fulfill for herself.

She was an adventurous women and enjoyed traveling, time spent outdoors, crafting, fishing, cooking, gardening, sewing and was always willing to try anything new.

However, the things she most treasured in life were her family and her faith. She was a loyal member of the North Alton Southern Baptist Church; the most loving, caring, understanding mother, grandmother, aunt and friend anyone could ask for and she will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Left to treasure her memory are a son and daughter-in-law, Gordan Ray and Jane Wilcox of Beardstown; a daughter, Glenda Lou McKinney and her fiancé Ken Driver of Jerseyville; four grandchildren and their spouses, Cory Allen Wilcox of  Virginia, Joey Ray (Sally) Wilcox of O’Fallon, NV, Charlotte Reynae Wilcox of Beardstown, and Katina Marie (Jeffrey) Bruner of Edwardsville; 4 great-grandchildren, Dayne, Mariah and Makayla Wilcox and Raymond Scott Bruner; a brother, Howard Fenstermaker of and a sister, Dorothy Schrieber both of Jerseyville.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles Franklin , Leo Elmer and Earl Edward “Skippy” Fenstermaker along with several extended family members.

Visitation will be be from 10:30 until time of funeral services at 12 noon, Friday, December 5, 2014 at the North Alton Southern Baptist Church with the Rev. Sonny Renken officiating.

Private family interment will take place at Jefferson Barracks Cemetery in St. Louis, MO with her husband Raymond at a later date. 

In lieu of flowers and plants, memorials may be given to the Family in care of Crawford Funeral Home.
