Roger Higgins

Roger A. Higgins, 79, passed away at 6:56 pm Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at Alton Memorial Hospital.

He was born October 1, 1935 in Sunbury, Ohio, the son of Arthur J. and Catherine (Davis) Higgins.

He married Bonita Lou Wilcox on October 14, 1956 at Sunbury Presbyterian Church.  She survives.

Roger retired from Nestle Corporation in 2003 after 50 years of service.  He also served on the board for the East Alton Parks and Recreation for 40 years.  He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of East Alton, was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan, collected John Deere tractors and loved driving his John Deere.  He was involved with Operation Blessing, the United Way, RCGA, and (SIIA) Southern Illinois Industrial Association.  He was a baseball coach and loved to watch his grandchildren play all sports. 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children and their spouses, Randy and Cindy Higgins of Highland, Bruce and Teri Higgins of Fosterburg and Sharma Higgins of Fosterburg; six grandchildren, Michelle Huhn and her husband, Jon, Ryan Higgins, Brett Higgins, Colby Higgins, Cutter Higgins and Cully Higgins; three great grandchildren, Marissa Huhn, Joshua Huhn and Myah Huhn; a brother and sister-in-law, Roland and Terri Higgins; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Juanita and Wendall Davidson and Carolyn and Allen Kenney and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by an infant sister, Eileen Higgins, a sister, Naomi and her husband Wayne Judy and a brother, Richard Higgins.

Visitation will be from 2 to 6 pm Sunday, November 30, 2014 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am Monday, December 1, 2014 at the funeral home with Pastor Homer Hanshaw officiating.

Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of East Alton God’s Kids.
