Perry Heavner

Perry Heavner, age 85, passed away Friday, November 21, 2014, at Blu Fountain Manor.

Born July 31, 1929 in Pearl Illinois to Asa and Etha (Calvin) Heavner.  He was a 1947 graduate of Pearl Community High School.


He started working at Owens Illinois Glass Company, first at the Alton plant and then at the machine shop in Godfrey.  Eighteen years as a machinist and 19 as a shop supervisor.  He retired in 1984 and began teaching in the vocational program at Lewis & Clark Community College for 18 years.  He was also a real estate agent for many years.  He served in the Army for 2 years and the reserves for 6 years.
He married the love of his life, Anna Mae Carpenter in 1951. 


He is survived by his wife, his son Rick Heavner and Deb of Decatur, IL, his daughter, Roxy Davis and Jim of Godfrey.  Also three grandchildren, Kristy and John West, Brian Stevens, Brad Stevens and one great granddaughter, Bailey West.


He will be remembered for his love of basketball, golf, bowling, The Cardinals and the University of Illinois.  He also loved to travel and loved taking his family on vacations.
Memorials may be made to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation or St. Ambrose Church in Godfrey.  He donated his body to science at SLU.


Visitation will be Tuesday, Nov. 25 from 10 am to 11 am at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey.  Funeral mass will be at 11 am.
