Eva W. Gregory, 91, passed away at 8:25 a.m. Friday, November 21, 2014 at Bethalto Care Center.
Born July 15, 1923 in Bellerive, Ill., she was a daughter of Chandler and Ruth (Riggs) Schrum.
She married James A. Gregory Oct. 31, 1942 in Charleston, Mo. He preceded her in death March 3, 2001.
A supervisor at Alton Mental Health Center, she retired in 1974 after 20 years. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, and while at home, she loved to sew and quilt, bake and cook, and care for her grandkids.
Survivors include a daughter, Vickie (David) Wright of East Alton; a son, Nelson (Donna) Gregory of Bethalto; 4 grandchildren, James (Shelly) Gregory, Donna Kay Lamble, Kathryn Renshaw, and Sara Hovis; a step-granddaughter, Anna Marie Wright; great grandchildren, Tara (Josh) Blocher, Brooke Gregory, Caleb Renshaw, Kyle Lamble, Erin (Jesse) Whitson; 2 great-great grandchildren, Christian and Jace Blocher; and 3 sisters, Florence (Bill) Summers of Mt. Vernon, Ill., Iva Mae McKinney of Florida, and Oneida Minor of California.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Alice Peacock; and 3 brothers, Cecil, Ben and “Pete” Schrum.
Visitation will be Tuesday, Nov. 25 from 9:30 a.m. until services begin at 10:30 a.m. at Paynic Home for Funerals. Burial will follow at Wanda Cemetery in South Roxana.
Memorials may be given to Bethalto Care Center.
