Shelby Kibler

Wood River |

Shelby Jean Kibler, 77, passed away at 12:47 a.m. Sunday, September 21, 2014 at St. Louis University Hospital.

Born in Wood River on June 5, 1937, she was the daughter of Leonard W. and Eleanora Esther (Huebner) Kohlmiller.

On February 7, 1964 at St. John United Church of Christ in Wood River, she married David Leon Kibler.  He died August 28, 1996.

Shelby worked as a dental assistant, cable television salesperson and medical encoder, before becoming the Financial Secretary for St. John United Church of Christ, a position that she held from 1985 to 2009.

A faithful servant of Christ, she devoted herself to the church, helping with salad luncheons, funeral dinners, Vacation Bible school, as well as performing sketches and short plays during worship services.

She was a dedicated bird watcher and enjoyed developing feeding stations and backyard gardens, designed to attract feathered friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents;husband; and sister, Eleanor E. Kohlmiller.

Surviving are a son, David E. Kibler; nephew, Phillip Kibler; nieces, Deborha Kusmanoff, Elizabeth ' Lisa' Kusmanoff and Rebecca Hart.

A combined visitation with her sister, Eleanor will be held from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Marks Mortuary in Wood River, where services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday.  Rev. Michael Southcombe and Rev. Christopher Hill will officiate.

Burial will follow in Wanda Cemetery in South Roxana.

Memorials may be made to St. John United Church of Christ in Wood River or the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.
