Betty Farley

Betty R. Farley, 95, died at 1:54 p.m. Monday, September 15, 2014 with her daughters by her side. Born July 20, 1919 in Alton she was the daughter of Fred A. and Sadie (Poore) Redmond. Mrs. Farley was the oldest living graduate of Marquette High School. She was a member of the Upper Alton Woman’s Club for over 50 years, a member of P.E.O. Chapter IL, and an avid bridge player. She worked in the jewelry department at Famous Barr for 10 years. On December 27, 1939 she married N. Rogers Farley Jr. in Alton. He preceded her in death on May 28, 1976. Betty was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Surviving are four daughters, Mary Hoechst (Tom) of Alton, Sarah Woodman of Alton, Georgia Farley of Alton, and Chris Jones (Dennis) of Bethalto, nine grandchildren, Beth Hoechst, Christopher Hoechst, Nathaniel Hoechst, Amy Sholar, Eddie Sholar Jr., Maggie Sholar, Katie Wilson (Chris), Stephen Jones, and Kaylie Donaldson (Tyler), 13 great grandchildren, two brothers-in-law, Mike Farley (Rae) of Mesa, AZ, and Harrison Farley (Marie) of St. Paul, MN. She was preceded in death by a son, N. Rogers Farley III, a brother Jack Redmond, and a sister-in-law, Sylvia Thomas. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until time of memorial service at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, September 18, 2014 at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Alton. Monsignor Kenneth Steffen and Father Peter Donohoe will officiate. Burial will be at Alton Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Marquette High School or SS Peter & Paul School.
