Dorothy Anntoinette May, 87, passed away 7:40 am Sunday September 14, 2014 at her home in Bethalto.
She was born March 12, 1927 in Carrollton, IL, the daughter of Cletus and Edna (Witt) Hayes.
She married Gerald Moran May on December 9, 1952 in Bethalto. He survives.
Dorothy was a homemaker. She enjoyed camping with her family and friends. She was a very good seamstress, loved tending to her flowers, and she loved to chase off the neighborhood squirrels, to keep them away from her flowers and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Charles Kwas of Bethalto; a son and daughter-in-law, Jeffery and Ann May of Mukwonago, WI; three grandchildren, Vincent Kwas of Bethalto, Monica May and Ryan May of Mukwonago, WI; four sisters and a spouse, Agnes Naylor of Alton, Florita Duncan of Alton, Rose Luecht of Godfrey and Linda and Mike Wense of Alton; two brothers and their spouses, Cletus and Betty Hayes Jr. of Alton and David and Barbara Hayes of Alton and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Catherine Cole and Sarah McNab and four brothers-in-law, Leo Cole, Leland Duncan, Stanley Luecht and Charles Naylor.
Private services will be on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.
Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Leukemia Foundation.
