Harold Drainer

Harold L. Drainer, 92, passed away 1:12 a.m. Friday, September 5, 2014 at Eden Village Care Center.

Born on February 23, 1922 in Wood River, he was the son of Louis "Pat" and Margaret (Weiss) Drainer.

He had been a chemist for the Olin Corporation 43 years before retiring.

Harold was an active member of the Wood River Knights of Columbus and had reached the level of Grand Knight.  He served as a Scout Master for Troop #37 with the Boy Scouts of America and had been an member and active at St. Bernard Catholic Church (Holy Angels).

On September 25, 1945 in Alton, he married the former Marie McGrath.  She survives.

Surviving also are two sons, Bob (Dianne) Drainer of Columbia, MO, Ron (Lyn) Drainer of Springfield; three daughters, Marianne Drainer of Glen Carbon, Peggy (Rick) Haydon of Edwardsville, Patty (Dave) Stake of Sherman; nine grandchildren, Ronald Draier, Jenny Schauster, Sara Sowell, Patrick Haydon, Becky LaFata, Alex Stake, Kalin Haydon, Jimmy Stevens; and nine great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jim Drainer; and a sister, Helen Weaver.

Visitation will be from 9-9:45 a.m. Wednesday at Marks Mortuary in Wood River.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Angels Parish Church in Wood River at 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Burial will be in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.

Memorials may be made to Unity Hospice or the Diabetes Foundation.
