Charleen Sanders

Charleen Ann Sanders, 83, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 12:45 p.m. on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at Granite Nursing and Rehabilitation in Granite City.  She was born January 31, 1931 in Granite City, a daughter of the late Michael and Frances Skubish.  She retired in 1993 from Aviation Systems Command in St. Louis after 30 years of dedicated service as a personnel specialist.  She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and the National Association of Federal Employees.  She loved working Penny Press crossword puzzles and writing.  She was a very artistic and creative person whom always had a good sense of humor.  She will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her family and friends.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Brian Kelley of Granite City; a son and daughter-in-law, Benjamin and Diane Sanders of Gurnee; three grandchildren, Amanda and husband, Ken Atkins of Granite City, Libby Kelley and fiancé, Brad Lucas of St. Louis and Jocelyn Sanders of Gurnee; a great grandson, Michael Atkins of Granite City; a sister and brother-in-law, Sandra and Jerry Strannigan of Glen Carbon; other extended family and friends.

In celebration of her life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.  A funeral mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Catholic Church in Granite City on Thursday, August 28, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Jeff Holtman as celebrant.  Burial will be at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville.  Memorials may be made to Holy Family Catholic Schools Annual Fund and may be accepted at the funeral home.  www.irwinchapel.com
