Shirley A. Phelps, 78, formerly of Brighton, died at 1:00 a.m., Saturday, August 23, 2014 at Alton Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
She was born on April 21, 1936 in Tyndall, South Dakota and was one of ten children born to the late William & Bess (Nedved) Jiricek.
She attended schools in South Dakota, and later moved to California for four years.
She then married and moved to Dorsey and lived there for five years before moving to Brighton where she raised her family and lived for 49 years before moving to Jerseyville in 2011.
Shirley retired from Beverly Farms in Godfrey, where she was employed for 32 years, and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
Surviving are her six children & their spouses, Debbie Phelps of Cottage Hills, Danny & Terri Phelps of Jerseyville, Diane & Wayne Frye of Jerseyville, Doug & Susan Phelps of Cottage Hills, Donna Harris of LaGrange, Ga., and Denise Phelps, and her companion Mark Burch of Brighton; 12 Grandchildren; 12 Great Grandchildren; and one sister, Rose Tolle of Springfield.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jenna Marie Phelps; a great granddaughter, Kyleigh Campbell; a sister, Verna Jiricek; and seven brothers, Sylvan, John, Melvin, Willard, Myron, Richard & Raymond Jiricek.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Monday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m., Tuesday. Rev. Kimberly Allen will officiate.
Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.
Memorials may be given to the Disabled American Veterans in care of the funeral home.
