Joan Arnold

Wood River |

Joan Elaine Arnold, 79, of Wood River, IL, died at 5:05 a.m. Monday, August 11, 2014 at Meridian Village in Glen Carbon, exactly eight days to the minute after her husband.

Born Apr. 26, 1935 in Wood River, she was the daughter of Stephen J. and Rae J. (Hanz) Dvorchak.

On June 7, 1958, she and Hubert Thomas Arnold were married at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Wood River.  He passed away Aug. 3, 2014.

Joan was on the Wood River Parks & Recreation Board for many years and was a member of Daughters of Isabella.  She loved Bingo, and was a wonderful mom, grandma and great grandma.

She is survived by: 3 daughters, Martha Arnold of Rosewood Heights, IL, Sarah (James) Venhaus of Wood River, Rebecca Arnold of Lilburn, GA; 2 sons, Daniel (Barbara) Arnold of Maryland Heights, MO and Chris Arnold of Wood River; 6 grandchildren, Samuel (Kira), Kathryn and Anna Grace Whitaker, Jared & Corey Venhaus and Nathan Arnold; a great-grandson, William Whitaker; 3 brothers, Stephen R. Dvorchak of Las Vegas, Nev., Richard J. (Cynthia) Dvorchak of Portland, OR, and Denis M. (Barbara) Dvorchak of Mesa, AZ; and a sister-in-law, Lillian Arnold of Glen Carbon.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 14 at Paynic Home for Funerals.  Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, Aug. 15 at Holy Angels Catholic Church, with Father James Flach as Celebrant. 

Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville, IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to: Masses or Habitat for Humanity.
