Vincent Dominic Campagna, 87, died at 6:23 a.m. Sunday, July 27, 2014 at Rosewood Care Center in Alton. Born August 7, 1926 in Alton, he was the son of Dominic and Anna (Azzarello) Campagna. Mr. Campagna served in the U.S. Army and retired in 1986 as a blacksmith for Laclede Steel after 43 years of service. He loved guns and was a member of the NRA. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and riding horses and wood working. He rode his motorcycle until he no longer could. Surviving is a daughter, Debbie Chapman (Matt) of Wood River, a son, Mike Campagna of Wilsonville, one grandchild, Brad Oleson, four great grandchildren, Steven Oleson, Samantha “Sam” Oleson, Stephanie Oleson, and Lucy Oleson, three sisters, Josephine Clyde of Brighton, Antoinette Darr of Godfrey, and Ann Wittman of Godfrey, and numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving are his previous wife, Roberta Hill and her son, Joel G. Hill. He was preceded in death by three brothers and sisters-in-law, Tony and Cora Campagna, August “Gus” J. and Athlone Campagna, and Joseph and Ginny Campagna, an infant brother, Joseph Campagna, an infant sister, Mary Campagna, and two brothers-in-law, Bert Darr and Walter Wittman. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until time of memorial service at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 2, 2014 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Monsignor Kenneth Steffan will officiate. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Alton with full military honors by the VFW Post 1308. Memorials may be made to the VFW Post 1308 Ritual Team.
