Delores Brooks

Delores “Dody” Brooks, 88, passed from this life into her heavenly rest at 8:06am on Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at Alton Memorial Hospital with her family by her side. She was born on December 26, 1925, in East Alton the daughter of the late Howard J. and Pauline (Wiist) Franklin. She married William V. Brooks on February 28, 1945, in St. Charles, Missouri, and he preceded her in death in June of 2000. Survivors include one son and daughter in law: Rick and Melinda Brooks of Alton, six grandchildren and their spouses: Steve and Jennifer Scott of Hartford, Stacy Scott of Edwardsville, Greg and Sandy Scott of East Alton, Chris and Thalia Scott of Wood River, Dathan and Amy Brooks of Godfrey, Travis Brooks of Gainesville, Florida, twelve grandchildren, four great grandchildren, two sisters: Margaret Renois of Wood River, and Sally Davenport of Wood River.

Dody was a devoted wife and mother. She was an important part of Franklin Bicycle Shop for 30 years. She gave many hours of dedicated service and companionship to her husband Bill there. Dody gave much love and support to her daughter Ellen and son Rick’s children in their formative years. She always made sure church was an important part of her family’s life and served as a Sunday School Teacher and in various roles throughout her lifetime. She instilled a love for her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ in her children and grandchildren that they carry with them to this day. Dody and her husband spent their later years building and caring for a home in Hettick, Illinois. They both enjoyed time outdoors and always had a bountiful garden to share. Dody’s beautiful smile and happy laugh will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by all who knew her.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter: Ellen Scott and one sister: Kathryn Zimmerman:

In celebration of her life visitation will be from 9:30am until time of funeral services at 11am on Saturday, June 21, 2014, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River. Pastor Matthew Prince will officiate. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.

Memorials are suggested to Community Hope Center in Cottage Hills.
