Daniel Pelhank

Daniel Alford Pelhank, 80, went home to be with the Lord at 11:30 pm Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at Rosewood Care Center in Edwardsville with his loved ones by his side.   

He was born on December 7, 1933 in Saline County, IL, the son of Almon Simpson and Ruby Pearl (Rhodes) Pelhank. 

He married the former Margaret Nell Hunt on September 13, 1957 in Cottage Hills, IL.  She survives. 

Daniel served his country in the U.S. Army.  He graduated with a BS from Rolla School of Mines.  He was an electrical engineer for McDonnell Douglas.  He was a member of the honorary fraternity, EKN. Daniel was a faithful member of Bible Baptist Church in Cottage Hills for 51 years, where he served as deacon, treasurer and teacher. He was a member of the American Institute of Aeronautics.  His name was placed on a memorial at the “Space Walk Hall of Fame’ in Titusville, FL, the “Mercury Monument” and the “Gemini Monument”.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three children and their spouses, Jeffrey (Misty) Pelhank of Georgia, Juliann (Donald) Silveus of Bethalto and Rebekah (Loyd) Gross of Edwardsville; six grandchildren and their spouses, Megan (Adam) Johnisee, Lonnie (Dan-Dan) Silveus, Kristina (Zach) McCoy, Kyle Pelhank, Adam (Jessica) Gross and Joseph Gross; four step grandchildren, Brandee Silveus, Spencer Brier, Alex Brier and Skyler Brier; three great grandchildren, Daniel, William and Clara; five step great grandchildren; a brother, John Pelhank of Dorsey; a sister, Loretta Edwards of Alton and many nieces and nephews.  He will be missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Lillie Shewmaker, Betty Stoltz and Virginia Bierman and two nephews, Lee Tarrant and John Shewmaker. 

Visitation will be from 9 am until services at 11 am Saturday, June 21, 2014 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.

Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.

Memorials may be made to the Bible Baptist Church, 11 West McArthur, Cottage Hills, IL 62018.
