William “Bill” P. Ludwig, Sr., 84, went to be with the Lord at 8:36 pm Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at Eunice Smith Nursing Home in Alton.
He was born on October 27, 1929 in Wapello, Iowa, the son of Orlando and Sadie (Peters) Ludwig.
He married Beverly M. Vollintine on April 14, 1950 in Edwardsville. She passed away on March 31, 2008.
He was a mechanic for Union Electric now known as Ameren UE plus he owned a boat prop shop. He was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Midway, the Model T Club, the Wood River Masonic Lodge and was a charter member of the Marine Propeller Association. He enjoyed hunting and antique cars. Bill was a hard worker and always had a joke
He is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, James & Betty Ann Ludwig of Tuscola, Il, Larry Ludwig of Midway and William “Bill” and Shelia Ludwig Jr. of Dorsey; eight grandchildren, William “Billy” Ludwig, Joe Ludwig, Josh Ludwig, Angie Thomason, Jason Gaines, Michelle Lucas, Scott Ludwig, Matthew Ludwig; eleven great-grandchildren and two sisters, Laura Favre and Margaret Christianson.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, John Ludwig, brothers, John Ludwig and Robert Ludwig and his sisters, Lilly May Jarvis, Dorothy Fellhauer and Mary Stites.
Visitation will be from 2 to 5 pm Sunday, June 8, 2014 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am Monday, June 9, 2014 at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Midway with Pastor Lori Schafer officiating.
Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens Cemetery in Bethalto.
Memorials may be made to St. John’s United Church of Christ Capital Fund.
