Albert Leo Walter, 87, passed away at Wednesday June 4, 2014 at Christian Hospital North East.

He was born on November 11, 1926 in Alton, IL the son of the late Frances and Bernice (Stamper) Walter.

Albert married Marjorie Lyons on January 25, 1964 in Alton.  She survives.

He served in the Army and then went to work for the US Postal Service as a rural mail carrier until he retired in 1989 

Albert was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton and was a volunteer with Godfrey Fire Dept.

In addition to his wife Marjorie, he is also survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law and two daughters; Thomas & Vonda Walter of Godfrey, Nancy Mangara of Godfrey, Cathy Walter of Alton, and Daniel Walter of St. Louis; five grandchildren, Sean, Amy, and Michael Walter, Matthew and Christopher Mangara; one great granddaughter, McKenna Mangara; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Mary Beilsmith of Brighton, and Charlotte &  Casey Jones of Idaho, one brother and sister-in-law, Vincent & Diane Walter of Godfrey.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his three brothers, Bernard, Eugene and Robert Walter.

Visitation will be from 9 to 9:45 am Monday June 9, 2014 at Staten-Fine Funeral Home in Alton.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am Monday June 9, 2014 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton with Fr. John Luong OMV celebrant.

Burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Godfrey.

Memorials may be made to: St. Mary’s Catholic Church building fund.
