Harold Lloyd Clarkson, 89, passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at St. Anthony’s Health Center in Alton. Born March 2, 1925 in Nortonville, IL, he was the son of Juddie and Lillie (Reynolds) Clarkson. Harold served honorably in WWII in the Navy Seabees Pacific Theatre. He owned a service station in Alton for many years. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Piasa Masonic Lodge 27, and a lifetime member of the VFW Post 1308. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Bette Anne (Seymour) Clarkson, his three children, Harold Kenton Clarkson and his wife Gail Hutchinson of Jerseyville, Cinda Christine Loesch and her husband Finley Loesch of Godfrey, and Richard Mark Clarkson and his wife Joan Prulidge of Alton, two grandchildren, Matthew Loesch of Portsmouth, Ohio, and Megan Sumpter and her husband Joe Sumpter of Godfrey, and two sisters, Opal Negus of Jacksonville, IL and Dorothy Keplinger of Pueblo, CO. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and six sisters. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 31, 2014 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Reverend Andre’ Dobson will officiate. Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park with full military honors by the VFW Post 1308. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church in Alton.
