Arlan “Frank” Mir, 82, died at 1:42 p.m. Saturday, May 3, 2014 at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Alton. Born August 23, 1931 in Durango, Colorado, he was the son of William and Irene (Kettler) Mir. Mr. Mir served in the U.S. Air Force. He was a former member of the Alton Eagles F.O.E. no. 254, the Elks Lodge 2316 in Florissant, MO and was a 3rd Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus in Bunker Hill. He worked for McDonnell Douglas as director of manufacturing, retiring in 1989 after 36 years of service. During the years of 1992-1995 he then worked as Vice President of operations on the B2 Bomber in Palmdale, CA at Northrop Grumman. Since 2005 he had enjoyed spending the winter months in Pharr, TX. On March 27, 1976 he married the former Phyllis Wright. They celebrated their 38th wedding anniversary in March of this year. Along with his wife he is survived by three sons, William C. Mir of Washington, MO, Robert Mir (Claire) of St. Charles, MO, and Robert Curry of Hazelwood, MO, two daughters, Sheryl Lincoln of Florissant, MO, and Debra Randol (Don) of Labadie, MO; nine grandchildren, Nicole Stephenson (Matt), Jennifer Kelsey (Ed), Heather Gehner (Luke), Jacqueline Mir, Rebecca Lincoln, Ryan Mir, Christopher Lincoln, Jessica Mir, and Charles Randol; eight great grandchildren, Nolan Kelsey, Brady Michael McNamee, Logan Kelsey, Natalie Mir, Caden Gehner, Owen Kelsey, Sophia Stephenson, and Eagan Gehner; a sister, Lois Continho of Antelope, CA, a sister-in-law, Wanda Mir of Surprise, AZ, and his beloved Bichon dog, Mandy. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, William Mir, a sister, Joelene Zellitti, two brothers-in-law, Manuel Continho and Al Zellitti, and his Teacup Poodle Chihuahua Mindy. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Alton. Monsignor Kenneth Steffen and Father George Radosevich will officiate. Burial will be at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Godfrey with full military honors by the VFW Post 1308. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
