Hancy Ella (Brown) Nelson went home to be with the Lord Thursday, April 10, 2014 at 5:55 p.m. at Saint Anthony's Health Center.
She was born June 4, 1938 in Luxora Arkansas. She was the eldest of eleven children born to the Late Supt. Cornelius B. Brown and District Missionary Bertha Mae Brown.
Hancy started her elementary education in Luxora, Arkansas. Then the family moved to Illinois where she completed her secondary education in the Alton Public School System, receiving her diploma from Alton Sr. High School in 1956.
Hancy worked with her husband on the Nelson’s Family Trucking business. She also worked at Sears and Roe Buck in East St. Louis, American Steel in Granite City, Illinois, and Diversified Foam in St. Louis, MO in the business department.
Hancy married the love of her life after a five year courtship Emmurel R. Nelson of Venice, Illinois on November 25 1960. They shared 53 years of wedding bliss together.
In 1997 after she had retired, and her husband stopped working on the truck they began a Day Care Service in their home. Their love for children led them to adopt two children Donald Basemore-Nelson, and Erica Henley-Nelson.
Hancy was preceded in death by her father Supt. Cornelius B. Brown, mother District Missionary Bertha Mae Brown, and one sister Mother Zaddie Frison.

She leaves to mourn her passing a loving husband Emmurel Ray (Emm) Nelson, one son Donald Nelson, both of Alton, and one daughter Erica Nelson of Holiday Shores, Edwardsville Illinois. Three Brothers Cornelius B. Brown Jr. (Dorothy) Peoria, Illinois, James Edward Brown Houston, Texas, Anthony Wayne Brown Alton, Illinois, Six sisters Christine Harris (Governor) Milwaukee, Wisconsin, A. Jean Washington (Walter), Alberta Porter (J. Michael) both of Alton, Illinois, Mary Henderson Phoenix, Arizona, Mable Holmes (Greg) Dallas, Texas, Rose Lenox Charlotte, North Carolina.
Two sister-in-laws and two brother-in-laws Ernestine Terry, Velma Donald, Nathaniel Nelson, and Lorenzo Nelson and a host of nieces nephews, cousins church family and friends.

Visitation will convene Friday, April 18, 2014 from 9 until time of service at 11:00 a.m. at Deliverance Temple Complex C.O.G.I.C. Interment will follow at Upper Alton Cemetery.  Guest book and condolencs may be registered at www.harrisonfuneralchapel.com
