Morris “Dean” Warner, 89, passed away at 1:55 a.m. Monday, April 14, 2014 at Alton Memorial Hospital.
Born Oct. 24, 1924 in Stewardson, Ill., he was a son of Wiley and Mary Catherine (Boldt) Warner.
Dean started his education at Charleston University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Education. He then entered the U.S. Air Force and served during World War II in the South Pacific as a radio operator/navigator and training officer on a B17. After his military service, he returned to school and earned his Master’s at Bradley University. He taught Industrial Arts at Madison High School, where he met his future wife. In the mid-1950s, he joined the Carpenters Union and worked for R & R Construction. In 1974 he began working for Helmkamp Construction and retired from there in 1993. He also taught part time at Lewis & Clark Community College. He was most proud of the fact that his very first and very last projects were both churches. After retirement, he enjoyed gardening. Dean also was a 30 year member of the Wood River Hoedowners Squaredance club and was a longtime member and Sunday school teacher at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Rosewood Heights. He also was a member of the Masons and the Shriners, Ainad Temple.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Sue (Orr) Warner; a daughter, Brenda (Alan) McCalla of Moro; a son, Larry Dean Warner of Butte, Mont.; a grandson, Reece Warner; and a brother and sister-in-law, Edwin and Mildred Warner of Sigel, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Terri Lynn Warner; a sister, Betty Roach; and a brother and sister-in-law, Dallas and Bea Warner.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, Apr.16 at Paynic Home for Funerals, and will continue there Thursday, Apr.17 from 10 a.m. until services begin at 11 a.m. Pastor Daryl Fansler will officiate.
Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto, with military honors by Alton VFW Post #1308.
