Melvin Unterbrink

Melvin A. Unterbrink, age 87, of Godfrey, passed away Saturday, April 12, 2014, at St. Anthony’s Health Center.

He was born September 15, 1926, in Wisconsin, the son of Edward and Neva (Haar) Unterbrink. He married June Robertson on April 23, 1947, at Main St. Methodist Church in Alton.  She preceded him in death on October 4, 2007.

Mr. Unterbrink was a Navy veteran who served in WWII. Melvin retired in 1983 after 35 years with Hutton Ford and Albrecht-Hamlin Chevrolet. He owned and operated Unterbrink’s Christmas Tree Farm. Melvin was a founding member of the Alton Water Ski Club and a member of the National Christmas Tree Association.

He is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Cindy and Kenny Inman of Edwardsville, and Dana and Chris Horn of Godfrey; three grandchildren, Brittany and Luke Sanders, Courtney Inman, and Zach Horn; a niece, Patti Culp; a nephew and his wife, David and Tina Culp; and many friends.

In addition to wife, June; he is preceded in death by his parents; and a sister and brother-in-law, Ike and Thomas Culp.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, April 16, 2014, from 10:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton, followed by interment at Upper Alton Cemetery. Military burial rites will be provided by Alton VFW Post #1308.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Diabetes Association.
