Norman Hatcher

Wood River |

Norman Lee Hatcher, 87, passed away at 8:35 a.m. Monday, March 24, 2014 at VIP Manor in Wood River.

Born Feb. 7, 1927 in Sesser, Ill., he was the son of Sam and Katie (Clark) Hatcher.

He worked as a test bench operator for Laclede Steel for 47 years, retiring in 1990.  He loved to garden and birdwatch.

The U.S. Army veteran served during WW II and the Korean Conflict.  He was a member of the Wood River VFW.

Survivors include 2 daughters, Ginny Marchione of Utica, Mich. and Dola Berry of Wood River; a son, Noble (Terry) Hatcher of St. Louis; seven grandchildren, Christopher Marchione, Matt (Jamie) Berry, Brian (Tara) Berry, Corrie (Nathan) Becker, Sam Hatcher, Jeffrey (Theresa) Lang and Mark (Bethany) Lang,; 7 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Laverne (Vaughn) Hatcher; a daughter, Nancy (Hatcher) Lang; and 4 brothers and 4 sisters.

Private services will be held.
