Charles A. Bonney Jr., 73, went to meet his maker on Friday, March 7, 2014. Born February 14, 1941 in Fall River, Massachusetts, he was the son of Charles A. Bonney Sr. and Evelyn P. (Kanuse) Bonney Wickham. Mr. Bonney served in the U.S. Navy as a medical officer stationed in the Antarctica with Operation Deep Freeze. He retired from Alton Memorial Hospital as a nurse anesthetist after 38 years of service. Charles was a great humanitarian. He was a caring person and would help anyone in need. He enjoyed remodeling homes and fixing things and loved to listen to the wind and thunderstorms. Surviving are his four children; Christopher Scott Bonney and his wife Dona of Godfrey, Melissa Sanders of Alton, Matthew Charles Bonney of Marion, IL, and Shane Michael Bonney of Johnston City, IL, five grandchildren; Christopher Scott Bonney Jr. of Alton, Stefanie Bonney of Godfrey, Chelsea Bonney of Marion, Ashley Nicole DeVerger and her husband Zachary of Jerseyville, and Julia Marie Bradshaw of Godfrey, one great grandson, Landen DeVerger, and two brothers, George Bonney of Port Orange, FL, and David Bonney of North Dartmouth, Massachusetts. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kaylynn Bonney. Private family services were held at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Shane Bonney officiated.
