George W. Robinson, 83, passed away unexpectedly at 12:50 pm Sunday, March 9, 2014 at Alton Memorial Hospital.
He was born December 24, 1930 in Wood River, IL, the son of John and Mabel (Brown) Robinson.
He married Joanne Criteser on June 9, 1950 in Hartford, IL. She survives.
George was an engineer at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville for more than 25 years. He drove the senior citizen’s bus in Bethalto for many years. He could fix anything was always willing to do repairs for other people.
In addition to his wife of 63 years, Joanne, he is survived by his children and their spouses, Catherine and David Zumbaum of Bethalto, William and Susan Robinson of Scottsdale, AZ and Ellen and Pat Lyons of Bethalto; six grandchildren and their spouses, Susan and Jeff Russell, Joseph Benton, Laura and Luke McKenney, Jill and Robert Pampel, William Robinson, Mark Robinson and Julie Robinson and two great grandchildren, Jaren Benton and Sylvia Russell.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Charlotte Hansen and a half sister, Katherine Weller.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 pm Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.
Committal service will be at 10:00 am Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
Memorials may be made to Ranken-Jordan Rehabilitation Hospital in St. Louis, MO.
