Betty Lea Montgomery, 88, passed away 11:29 p.m. Saturday, March 1, 2014 at her residence.Born in Hartford on February 16, 1926, she was the daughter of C. Otto and Margaret E. (Crader) Schlieper.She had been a clerk for Alberici Construction.In 1950 in Alton, she married George T. Montgomery. He died in 2003.Surviving are two sisters, Patricia L. Schiber of Hartford, Marje Turnquist of Des Moines, IA; 11 nieces and nephews; an aunt, Lorraine Schlieper of Pearl, IL; and numerous cousins.She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Edward Jerome "E.J." Schlieper; sister, Valera Whyte; and nephew, Todd Turnquist.In accordance with her wishes, her body was cremated and remains interned in Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.A private memorial service will be held at a later date.Marks Mortuary in Wood River was in charge of arrangements.
