Therese Morrissey

Alton |

Therese L. (“Trixie”) Morrissey, 84, born June 7, 1929 in Chicago, IL, passed on to the Kingdom of our Heavenly Father to rendezvous with her beloved Ed, December 26, 2013.

A woman with a spirit like no other and an incomparable devotion to her vast family will forever be remembered for her compassion for others, pure selflessness, and an unbending character.  In addition to raising her 11 children, Trixie pursued her passion for art and was involved in many clubs and organizations throughout her life.   Trixie partnered with her husband, Ed, to develop and grow Morrissey Construction Company to one of the area’s leading construction firms.  Trixie embraced all those she came in contact with, never met a stranger, and lit up every room she entered.  Heaven is, without a doubt, shining brighter with her energy and magical personality.

Trixie attended Monticello College where she met her husband of 62 years, Edmund Miller Morrissey. She married Edmund on November 27, 1948 in Chicago, Illinois. She was a lifelong member of St. Ambrose Church. Trixie was preceded in death by her husband, Edmund; her parents, Clifford and Sarah Woodbury; and siblings, Jane Northway, Barbara Burdick, and Cliff Woodbury, Jr.

Left to cherish her memory and celebrate her fruitful and eventful life are her 11 children and their spouses: Edmund (Patricia) Morrissey, Michael (Linda) Morrissey, Barbara (Mike) Morrissey-McGrew, Thomas (Laurie) Morrissey, James Morrissey, Joseph Morrissey, John Morrissey, Teri (Dean) Holland, Daniel (Kimara) Morrissey, Patrick Morrissey, and Kathy (Kurt) Brandt; her 27 grandchildren: Mary Morrissey, Jeanne (Nedim) Kirimca; Michael (Amanda) Morrissey, Jr., Vanessa (Randy) Bassett, Ryan (Sara) Morrissey; Thomas Edmoundson,; Micah (James) Panzini, Quinn and McKenna Morrissey; John Paul, Jackson, and Jacob Morrissey; Erich, Nathan, and Michelle Holland; Samantha Purcell, Daniel, Emma, Joseph, and Margaret Morrissey; Alexander and Matthew Morrissey; and Lauren, Zac, Noah, Luke and Sophie Brandt; and her 9 great grandchildren: Noah Kirimca; Konnor, Kollin, Karson and Kooper Morrissey; Madison and Isabelle Bassett; and Shane and Caroline Morrissey.

Trixie also leaves behind one sibling, Jean Culligan of Indian Head Park, IL and her brother-in-law, Thomas Morrissey, M.D. of Alton; along with many nieces and nephews, as well as countless friends.  Special recognition and thanks are in order for her devoted caregivers over the past few years, most notably Agnes Mwimba, Darlene (“Peach”) Cox, and Shara Miller.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made in Trixie’s memory to Marquette Catholic High School Edmund and Therese Morrissey Scholarship, St. Ambrose School Endowment Fund or a charity of one’s own choosing.

Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, December 29, 2013 from 2pm – 6pm at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey with funeral services at the church on Monday, December 30, 2013 at 10:30am, with Father Steve Pohlman as celebrant.

Burial will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Godfrey, Illinois.
