Margaret Dunnagan

Godfrey |

Margaret C. Dunnagan, a resident of Godfrey, Illinois, was born October 29, 1939, a daughter of Scott & Loretta (Welch) Hopper. She went home to be with Jesus December 23, 2013 at the age of 74 in her home with her family by her side, after a lengthy illness with Alzheimer’s.

Over the years, Margaret was employed at Owens Illinois Glass Company, owned her own accounting business, and retired from Cash’s Scrap Metal and Iron Inc. as a comptroller. After her retirement, Margaret worked as a substitute teacher’s aide for the Alton School District. She thoroughly enjoyed working with the young children at the Early Childhood Center.

A believer in Jesus, Margaret served others by teaching children, leading music, singing with the choir, and giving wherever she could at Christian churches in the area. She enjoyed working in her flower and rose gardens, sewing, and baking. With a kind and generous spirit, she often greeted guests and family with, “Are ya’ hungry?” and was ready to fix food and share the hospitality of her home.

Margaret is survived by her high school sweetheart and husband of over 54 years, Dave Dunnagan; two daughters and their spouses, Tim and Karen Botterbush of Godfrey, Thomas and Diana Bogardus of Hollister, MO; four grandchildren and their spouses, Lyndsey Bogardus of Hollister, MO, Dru & Debbie Bogardus of Cleveland, TN, Jacob & Elizabeth Botterbush of Hardin, IL, and Zachary Botterbush and his companion, Bre Ross of Godfrey, IL; three great-grandchildren, David and Dustin Bogardus and a new baby great granddaughter, Libby Botterbush; one sister, Mary Hopper of Billings, MT; and many nieces and nephews.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Theresa Davis, Ida Briskovich, Iva Hopper, and Helen (Pete) Davis; and one grandson, Dustin S. Bogardus.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of memorial service at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 28, 2013 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Jim Johnston will officiate.

Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Ronald McDonald House of St. Louis. Online guestbook and information may be found at www.gentfuneralhome.com
