Lester H. Schneider, 94, passed away 1:15 a.m. Thursday, December 12, 2013 at his residence with his loving family by his side.Born in DuQuoin on April 17, 1919, he was the son of Robert and Minnie (Hirsch) Schneider.A World War II army veteran, he worked as a civil engineer for Standard Oil (AMOCO) before retiring.On November 17, 1942 in Urbana, he married the former Mary Ramona Miller. She preceded in death on March 26, 2009.Surviving are three sons, Richard L. (Kay) Schneider of Beloit, WI, Robert (Connie) schneider of Decatur, AL, Joseph (Tina) Schneider of Alton; six daughters, Barbara C. (Jim) Johnson of Greenfield, MO, Mary Margaret (Michael) Wock of Brownsburg, IN, Ann (Mike) Forsting of Bethalto, Patricia Schneider of Benld, Katie (Steve) Parks and Susan (Robert) Hilker all of Edwardsville; 26 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and a brother, Robert Schneider of Lexington, KY.Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Marks Mortuary in Wood River. A Rosary will be recited at 3:30.Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Angels Parish Church in Wood River. Father James Flach will serve as celebrant.Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.Memorials may be made to Holy Angels Parish or Masses.
