Alice Chapman

Wood River |

Alice F. Chapman, 102, of Wood River, IL, passed away 9:20 p.m. Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at her home.

  Born Aug. 3, 1911 in Eldred, she was a daughter of David and Antoinette King.

  She married Curtis “Doug” Chapman on Oct. 24, 1932 in Eldred.  He preceded her in death Jan. 1, 1955.  She is survived by a son, James and daughter-in-law, Mildred Chapman of Wood River.

  She was formerly at Stix Baer and Fuller and Nims Jewelry Store in Carrollton, Ill.  She retired from Lewis & Clark Community College.  Alice was an avid quilter and enjoyed spending time with her fellow quilters.  She was also a member of the United Presbyterian Church of Wood River and was very dedicated to the Eastern Star of Bethalto for many years. 

  Other survivors include four grandchildren, Julie Chapman (Doug Cobb) of South Roxana, Scott (Vicky) Chapman of East Alton, Michael Chapman of Missoula, Mont., and Kelley (Tony) Smith of Hoyleton, Ill.; and great grandchildren Lindsay Chapman of Wood River and Ella Smith of Hoyleton; and nieces.

  In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a son, David Chapman; 4 brothers and a sister, Keith King, Charles King, Jerry King, Ben King and Gladys Davidson.

  Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21 at Paynic Home for Funerals, where services will be held at 11 a.m.  The Rev. Pam Laing will officiate.

  Burial will be at a later date.

  Memorials may be made to the United Presbyterian Church of Wood River.
