Dorothy Davenport

Dorothy Louise Cope Davenport, 78, died at 12:05 p.m., Thursday, September 12, 2013 at Jerseyville Nursing & Rehabilitation.

She was born in Grafton, on Nov. 3, 1934, and was the daughter of the late Parker & Helen I. (Osburn) East.
Dorothy was a member of the Peace United Church of Christ, and was the former owner/operator of Cope's Drive Inn and Tri-C Coin Laundry all in Jerseyville.

She married Herbert L. Cope on April 5, 1953 in Fieldon, and together had two children and shared 29 years together before his death on Dec. 13, 1982.

Surviving are a son, Michael A. Cope of Jerseyville; a daughter & son in law, Rhonda & Leo Milletello of Jerseyville; six grandchildren & their spouses, Katie & Chris Sievers, Kristy Motley all of Jerseyville, Olivia Cope of Dorsey, Chad Cope of Texas, Kyle & Tara Downey of Jerseyville, and Mitchell and Kelly Downey of Godrey; eight great grandchildren; a step brother & his wife, William & Dorothy East of Jerseyville.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Sunday at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday. Rev. Ted Engelsdorfer will officiate.

Burial will be alongside her husband at the Grimes-Neeley Cemetery in Jerseyville.

Memorials may be given to the Grimes-Neeley Cemetery or to the Peace United Church of Christ both in Jerseyville.
