Bertha Miller

JERSEYVILLE-  Bertha Evelyn Miller, 89. died peacefully at 6:10 a.m., Saturday, September 7, 2013 at the home of her daughter & son in law in Jerseyville.She was born in Nortonville, Il. on July 2, 1924, and was the daughter of the late Claude & Tabitha (Myers) Starner.In her younger years, Bertha worked at the International Shoe Factory, and later worked at Principia College in Elsah and Rudolph's Department Store in Jerseyville.Her main focus, however, was her home and her family.  She was a loving wife to Charles Franklin Miller whom she married on March 21, 1946 in Jacksonville.  Together they were blessed with three children and  62 years of marriage before his death on Sept. 24, 2008.Surviving are a daughter & son in law, Mary Jane & Chester Keene of Jerseyville; a son in law, Delbert Kallal of Alton; four grandchildren & their spouses, Wayne & Misty Keene of Columbia, MO., Tony & April Keene of Kirksville, Mo., Gary & Jamie Keene of Valley Park, Mo., and Josh & Teri Kallal of Alton; six great grandchildren; a sister, Irma Lehr of Fieldon; a brother in law, Keith Forrester of Roodhouse; a sister in law, Emma Lou Sullivan of Jerseyville, a sister in law & her husband, Vivian & Richard Wright of Jerseyville; and a brother in law & his wife, Richard & Earlene Miller of Jerseyville.In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, William Franklin Miller who was killed in action during the Vietnam War on Sept. 7, 1967; a daughter, Rebecca Kallal on June 16, 2011; a brother, Everett Starner; andfour sisters, Margaret Walker, Lucille Scott, Claudine Forrester and Irene Depper Perdun.Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday.  Rev. Dan Lovin will officiate.Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.Memorials may be given to the Wounded Warrior Project in honor of her son, or to the Blessing Hospice of Greene County.
