Robert Lowrance

Robert “Bob” L. Lowrance, 79, passed away at 1:02 am on Friday, September 06, 2013 at Relais Bonne Eau in Edwardsville with his family by his side.

He was born in Rosewood Heights, IL on June 30 1934, the son of Delmar R. and Martha T. (Hassmann) Lowrance. 

Bob married Juanita Gowin on November 13, 1954 in Wood River.  She survives.   

He was the only carpenter at Spectrulite Consortium for over 30 years, retiring in 1992.  He attended Cottage Hills Baptist Church.  He was involved in starting the Boys and Girls Club of Bethalto. He was a Cub Scout Leader and Boy Scout Leader, and his troop was known as the “Camping Troop” because they camped out or canoed every month, even he did not swim, and he received the Silver Beaver Award through scouting, which is the highest local award for volunteers.  He was a member of the Bunker Hill Knife Club and he coached Little League baseball, even though he had never played baseball in his life.  He enjoyed camping, antiquing, taking care of his animals and playing pinochle.  Most of all he loved his children and grandchildren and enjoyed watching their sporting events and he called all their friends, “Henry”.   

 

In addition to his wife of 58 years, he is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Robert “Bob” and Terri Lowrance of Holiday Shores, Steve and Patti Lowrance, Tim and Jeanette Lowrance and Jay and Sue Lowrance all of Bethalto; nine grandchildren, Robby, Ryan, Eric Schmidt, Paige Schmidt, Mackenzie, Kaleb, Jakob, Jonathan, and Jaylyn; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Darleen Gowin of Bethalto, Shirley and Jack Weirich of Aurora, CO and Mary Ann and Marion McAdams of Moro and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by an infant daughter, Cheryl Lee and two brothers, Edward Delmar and Darrell.

Visitation will be from 3:30 to 8 pm on Sunday, September 8, 2013 at Elias, Kallal, and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.  Funeral services will be held Monday. September 9, 2013 at 11 am at Cottage Hills Baptist Church with Pastor Clyde Myers officiating. 

Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.   

Memorials may be given to the Boys and Girls Club or the Cottage Hills Baptist Church.
